DHAMAR, Oct.. 29 (YPA) – Dr. Fadl Al-Omaysi, Director-General of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums branch in Dhamar Governorate, has announced a significant and exceptional archaeological discovery in the villages of Hijrat Munqidha and Al-Mahalla in the rural area of the capital district.

Al-Omaysi explained that the discovery, made during a rainwater harvesting project, is a sophisticated water channel that constitutes a new landmark shedding light on the engineering and civilizational genius of ancient Yemenis in water resource management. This channel illustrates the precision of the methods they followed to control, harvest, and distribute rainwater throughout the year for irrigation and agricultural purposes.

He noted that the discovery area includes ancient cities that flourished as Himyarite capitals, noting that the significance of the find lies in providing tangible evidence of how ancient Yemeni civilizations utilized the surrounding nature to ensure the sustainability of life and agriculture.

Al-Omaysi also confirmed that the Antiquities Organization will work to convert the discovered site into a historical landmark and living exhibit for training university students in archaeological and engineering field studies.
