UN chief welcomes ICJ ruling on Israel’s obligations in occupied territories

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which reaffirmed a number of fundamental obligations incumbent on “Israel” as an occupying power under international law.

In a statement, the Secretary-General stressed the need to support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to urgently provide supplies to the population in Gaza.

He emphasized the role of the United Nations in this regard, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), calling on all parties to fully comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights law.
