ADEN, Oct. 13 (YPA) – Widespread discontent was prevailed on Monday among recruits of coalition-backed factions in the southern Yemeni city of Aden following the disbursement of only one month’s dues after a five-month hiatus.
Local sources familiar with the matter said that recruits were surprised to receive their June dues, some of which amounted to as little as 25,000 Yemeni riyals, which quals $104.62, out of a total of 60,000 riyals, an unprecedented deduction.
This sharp reduction comes after monthly entitlements for recruits had been 60,000 Yemeni riyals in recent years, before being reduced to 50,000 riyals and recently falling to 25,000 riyals.
The recruits on the rolls of the “Ministry of Defense of the coalition-backed Aden government”, who rely on these entitlements as their sole source of income for themselves and their families, are suffering a significant deterioration in their living conditions due to the prolonged interruption of salaries since last June.
The new deductions were met with widespread anger, with some considering them a “systematic impoverishment” and an ingratitude for their “sacrifices”, unlike those of other factions, which receive their monthly dues in Saudi riyals.
Amid this discontent, the recruits vowed to organize a large-scale protest in Aden to demand the return of their unjustly deducted funds and the full payment of their overdue dues. They indicated that this measure may be “haram for them and permissible for the influential.”
This demonstration is expected to put pressure on the coalition-affiliated government and military leaders, calling for the disclosure of the party responsible for these deductions and the rectification of the recruits’ financial situation.
