STC factions suppress protesters against interruption of salaries and collapse of services in Aden

ADEN, Oct. 07 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions suppressed, on Tuesday, a peaceful protest in the city of Aden demanding the payment of employees’ salaries, which have been cut off for the fourth consecutive month.

Local sources reported that Transitional Council elements imposed an armed cordon on Al-Aroud Square in the Khor Maksar area, before the start of the protest called for by unions and employees to demand their salaries, which have been cut off since last June.

The sources indicated that employees and workers in various institutions defied security harassment and repression and gathered in the square to express their demands for the payment of their suspended salaries. They raised banners demanding their dues and a decent living.

This protest comes amid the continued inability of the coalition-affiliated government to provide employees’ salaries, which has led to widespread strikes in various vital facilities, including Hadramout and Shabwa universities, in addition to a teachers’ strike in various southern governorates.

The city of Aden and the rest of the southern governorates are suffering from a complete collapse of all basic services, most notably electricity, water, and health. Power outages in Aden have exceeded nearly 13 hours a day, amid the government’s inability to purchase a fuel shipment for power plants.
