Three wounded in Shabwa clashes

SHABWA, Sept. 24 (YPA) – Violent clashes broke out on Wednesday in Yemen’s southern eastern Shabwah Governorate, which is under the control of UAE-backed factions, leaving around three people wounded.

Informed human rights sources reported that  clashes erupted between armed men from the Al Abdullah bin Daha tribe due to disputes over the smuggling and transportation of African migrants from the Al-Arem area toward Ataq, the provincial capital. Among the injured was a man known as “Bin Al-Abd” from the Al Yislam bin Daha clan.

The sources indicated that the clashes erupted over the division of financial profits from the smuggling and transport of African migrants to Ataq. The clashes almost claimed the lives of several African migrants.

Since last year, Shabwa has emerged as a significant hub for the smuggling and trafficking of migrants from Horn of Africa countries through the Gulf of Aden. This has occurred amidst the complicity of military and security leaders loyal to the UAE. These operations have become a lucrative source of income, generating substantial foreign currency for those involved.
