LONDON, Sept. 24 (YPA) – London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Wednesday accused U.S. President Donald Trump of being racist, sexist, and anti-Muslim in a fiery response to Trump’s controversial remarks at the UN General Assembly.
Trump had called Khan a “failed mayor” and claimed the British capital was “heading towards Sharia law.”
Trump’s comments, made Tuesday evening, drew mixed reactions from British political circles. The Labour Party’s shadow health secretary, Wes Streeting, was quick to defend Khan, praising him as a figure who “champions diversity and difference.” In contrast, Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden avoided a confrontation with Trump, simply stating that “London remains a great global city.”
In his strong rebuttal, Khan said, “I think Trump has shown that he’s a racist, he’s a misogynist, he’s a misandrist, and he’s an Islamophobe.” Khan also implicitly criticized Labour leaders, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, for not publicly condemning Trump’s statements, adding that the “special relationship with the US should give Britain the confidence to call out Washington’s mistakes when necessary.”
