MOSCOW, Sept. 20 (YPA) – Russia expressed its “deep regret and disappointment” on Friday over the United Nations Security Council’s inability to halt the fighting and bloodshed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
“The inability of the UN Security Council to stop the fighting, end the bloodshed, and put an end to the suffering of civilians can only cause deep regret and disappointment,” read a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
This Russian statement comes after the United States vetoed, for the seventh time, a Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Fourteen members of the Council voted in favor of the resolution, with only the United States opposing it.
The resolution, drafted by the ten non-permanent members of the Security Council, demanded an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire” and called for the lifting of restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
