Euro-Med Monitor strongly condemns Israeli bombing of media center in Sanaa, calling it “blatant violation of int’l law”

SANAA, Sept. 20 (YPA) – The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation army’s targeting of a media center in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on September 10.

The Euro-Med Monitor described the attack, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of journalists and media workers, as a “blatant violation of international law.”

In an official statement released Friday, the monitor said that the Israeli airstrikes hit the offices of the two newspapers, “26 September” and “Al-Yaman,” located within a media center in the densely populated residential neighborhood of Al-Tahrir.

The statement pointed out that the attack was part of an intensive series of Israeli raids on several sites in Sanaa and Jawf province. The newspaper “26 September” announced that 31 of its journalists had been killed and 22 others injured in the bombing.

The Euro-Med Monitor affirmed that the targeting of journalists and media institutions is a systematic Israeli policy aimed at “silencing journalistic work and withholding information.” The monitor stressed that the Israeli army’s claims of using the premises for military purposes do not justify the attack, as journalists are entitled to special protection under international humanitarian law.

The monitor called on the international community to take “practical and immediate steps,” including imposing economic, diplomatic, and military sanctions on “Israel” to halt its continuous violations against journalists. It also urged a ban on exporting or purchasing weapons from “Israel” and a halt to all forms of political, financial, and military support and cooperation with it.
