Lloyd’s List Intelligence: Yemen’s ban only targets Saudi vessels

LONDON, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Recent data published by Lloyd’s List, the UK-based maritime data firm, indicates that international shipping traffic through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait is experiencing normal flow and notable stability, recording high activity levels for global shipping lines.

A total of 58 containerships transited the strait during July 20-26 — the highest weekly volume in the past month — according to preliminary data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence.

The figure suggests that the formal blockade declaration, announced on July 20, has not yet triggered any major rerouting of container traffic.

The figures show that Sana’a does not threaten international maritime navigation or law-abiding vessels, but seeks to ensure safe global trade routes, but maintains a “blockade-for-blockade” policy against Saudi vessels over Riyadh’s 12-year blockade of Yemen
