Shabwa Council: STC leads southern provinces to fragmentation

SHABWA, Sept. 17 (YPA) – Secretary-General of the Saudi-backed Shabwa National Council, Nasser bin Habtour, accused members of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) of exploiting their presence to arrange the affairs of their relatives and loyal followers in all coalition-held areas.

In a post on X, Bin Habtour said that the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) insisted on monopolizing the southern voice and representation by some of its leaders’ remarks.

He called on STC  to a serious review of these practices, which will only lead to further fragmentation and confusion, and for a change in the wrong approach.

Bin Habtour stressed the need for national political forces to recognize the danger of acquiescing to such behavior, calling for Saudi Arabia to pressure reform of what he called the “presidential system, which may aim at strengthening and activating its role.

Saudi Arabia placed the resigned President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi under house arrest and, in April 2022, formed the so-called “PLC” in Riyadh, sharing power with the UAE, which appointed the heads of its armed factions.
