Syrian Observatory: New violations of Sweida truce reveal fragility of ceasefire agreement

SANAA, Sept. 14 (YPA) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed a new violation of the ceasefire agreement concluded between the Syrian transitional government and local factions belonging to the Druze community in the southern province of Sweida.

The Observatory explained that the village of Ara in the western countryside of Sweida was targeted, on Sunday, by positions belonging to the transitional government forces, followed by a limited response from the local Druze factions, without confirmed information about human losses.

The Observatory indicated that the same village had previously witnessed a series of violations on three fronts, represented by heavy gunfire from the towns of Kanaker and Khirbet Samar in the Damascus countryside, in addition to another violation from the Tal Hadid axis towards the city of Sweida.

This development reflects the fragility of the truce signed in mid-July following bloody clashes in the province, amid growing fears that the security situation will slide into a new wave of escalation and violence.
