Thousands join pro-Palestine march in New Zealand’s largest city

WELLINGTON, Sept. 13 (YPA) – Thousands participated in a pro-Palestine march in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, on Saturday, marking the biggest demonstration of its kind since the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023.

The group “Aotearoa for Palestine” stated that around 50,000 people took part in the “March for Humanity” in central Auckland this morning, making it the largest march in New Zealand to support Palestinians since the conflict in Gaza started.

Radio New Zealand (RNZ), the public broadcaster, reported that many of the participants waved Palestinian flags and held signs with slogans, including “No Normalization of Genocide.”

In August, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon described the events in Gaza, including the lack of humanitarian aid, as “utterly horrific,” and noted that New Zealand was considering whether to recognize a Palestinian state.
