SANAA, Aug. 23 (YPA) – The Saudi-led coalition-backed militias imposed on Saturday heavy taxes on trucks carrying goods on the Dhalea-Damt road, which was recently re-opened at the initiative of the leadership in Sanaa.
Activists reported that drivers were surprised to find that trucks were being taxed using unofficial vouchers.
The activists confirmed that the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militants forced the truck drivers to pay 20,000 riyals, which equals $83.26, in an unstamped bond to cross, along with a written commitment to pay 100,000 riyals, which equals $416.32, the next time.
They noted that the STC’s militants used the roads as entry points for illicit gain, increasing the burden on drivers and citizens. They also pointed out that the STC refused to re-open the Aqabat Tharah road linking Abyan and Bayda province due to their disputes over tax collection.
