WFP: Gaza residents face risk of starvation, malnutrition has reached emergency levels

GAZA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of the worsening humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip, stressing that families there are not only facing hunger, but also the risk of starvation in light of the ongoing blockade and the denial of aid access.

In a statement, the programme said that malnutrition rates among the Strip’s population are increasing at an alarming rate and are described as a “silent killer” that threatens the lives of thousands of civilians, especially children and women.

It pointed out that malnutrition indicators have already exceeded internationally recognized emergency levels, making the humanitarian situation in Gaza more dangerous.

The WFP stressed the need to ensure safe and rapid access to humanitarian aid, including food, fuel, and basic supplies, to save the lives of civilians facing one of the worst food crises in the world.
