Qassam Brigades launches offensive operation against Israeli military sites

GAZA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Qassam Brigades, the Hamas movement’s military wing, declared on Wednesday its fighters carried out a large-scale offensive operation against a newly constructed Israeli military site southeast of Khan Yunis.

The Brigades said in a military statement that a Qassam infantry force stormed the site and targeted a number of Merkava 4 tanks with Shawaaz and fedayeen explosive devices, as well as Yassin 105 shells.

The fighters also targeted homes where Israeli soldiers were holed up with six anti-fortification and anti-personnel shells, in addition to machine gun fire.

The statement affirmed that a commander of a Merkava 4 tank was shot dead and a number of soldiers were targeted using small arms and hand grenades inside a house.

According to the statement, one of the suicide bombers blew himself up as an Israeli rescue force arrived at the scene, killing and wounding its rank. Meanwhile, the Brigades monitored helicopters landing to evacuate the wounded.
