BEIRUT, Aug. 09 (YPA) – Hezbollah’s deputy head of the political council, Mahmoud Qomati has strongly rejected a recent decision by the Lebanese government to disarm resistance factions, calling it a betrayal of national consensus and a submission to foreign pressure.
Mahmoud Qomati said in an interview with Yemen’s Almasirah TV that the move amounts to “a coup against the national consensus,” which was based on key priorities such as halting Israeli aggression, securing troop withdrawal, recovering prisoners, and beginning reconstruction efforts.
Qomati accused the government of yielding to Arab and American pressure, stating: “Government participants yielded to pressure from Arab princes who gave them money, also submitted to American dictates.”
He added, “It is shameful for a Lebanese government to convene to approve an American proposal.”
He emphasized that “Hezbollah will not implement the government’s decision and consider it meaningless — just ink on paper.”
Qomati reaffirmed that Hezbollah’s weapons will remain in the hands of the resistance and that both the leadership and its supporters are committed to preserving them.
“We will not direct our weapons inside Lebanon nor get drawn into any internal conflict, neither with the army nor any Lebanese party,” he stressed.
Qomati addressed members of the Lebanese government, stating, ” What you’ve done is a disgrace — the Americans trample you underfoot, yet you still cling to them”.
