SHABWA, Aug. 07 (YPA) – Armed clashes broke out Thursday evening between members of UAE-backed factions in Yemen’s Shabwa province, resulting in multiple casualties, including a battalion commander.
According to local sources, the clashes erupted after a recruit from Shabwa—whose name has not been disclosed, opened fire on a battalion commander in the UAE-backed 3rd Shabwa Defense Brigade, identified as Jalal Al-Zaghlawi , at the Al-Naqaa site inside the Jannah Hunt oil facility camp in Usaylan district.
The sources confirmed that the recruit had been insulted by Commander Al-Zaghlawi after demanding his unpaid wages that had been deducted from his salary.
The confrontation escalated into a heated exchange, ending with the recruit shooting the commander dead on the spot.
In response, Al-Zaghloul’s guards immediately opened fire and killed the soldier.
The incident quickly sparked broader clashes between other soldiers from Shabwa and the commander’s guards, leaving additional casualties. No further details were provided.
