Russia strikes Ukrainian airfields with Kinzhal missiles

MOSCOW, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Russian forces delivered a strike by precision weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, hitting Ukrainian military airfields over the past 24 hours in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

“Today, the Russian Armed Forces delivered a combined strike, using Kinzhal air-launched hypersonic ballistic missiles and long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles on the infrastructure of Ukrainian military airfields. The goal of the strike was achieved. All the designated targets were hit,” the ministry said in a statement.

In related developments, military observer Viktor Litovkin explained that the impact of the “Kinzhal” missiles goes beyond their hypersonic speed, noting that they have the capacity to disrupt infrastructure for weeks.

According to Russia Today, Litovkin told Tsargrad newspaper: “The ‘Kinzhal’ missiles can penetrate deep into the ground and explode, causing damage that may take weeks to repair.”

Litovkin also highlighted that the infrastructure at the airfield in Starokonstantinov, western Ukraine was destroyed.

He added that the airbase likely housed F-16 and Mirage fighter jets, along with stocks of long-range missiles, including Taurus and Storm Shadow.

“Preemptive strikes were carried out to prevent these weapons from being used against Russian forces,” Litovkin concluded.
