ABYAN, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Dozens of citizens demonstrated, on Monday, in the city of Al-Ain in Lawdar district of Abyan Governorate, which is under the control of coalition factions, to protest the continued power outages and rising prices, despite the decline in the foreign exchange rate.
The demonstrators raised slogans demanding urgent action to end the electricity crisis, provide basic services, and monitor markets.
They held local authorities responsible for manipulating prices and exploiting the difficult economic conditions.
The protesters emphasized that commercial greed has increased the suffering of the people, calling on local authorities and concerned parties to intervene immediately to control the markets and hold the manipulators accountable.
The participants in the protests closed forcibly a number of shops that refused to reduce prices, amid the absence of state authorities in those areas since the year of 2016.
This movement comes in light of the deterioration of basic services and the rising cost of living, which increases pressure on citizens in the governorate and the rest of the southern governorates.
