Belgium decides to refer two Israeli soldiers to ICC

BRUSSELS, July 31 (YPA) – The Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office has decided to refer the cases of two Israeli soldiers to the International Criminal Court (ICC), after they were arrested and investigated on allegations of war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office explained that the Brussels-based Hind Rajab Foundation filed two complaints against the two Israeli soldiers who visited the Belgian city of Boom to participate in the Tomorrowland festival on July 18 and 19.

The office stated that after examining the complaints, it decided to refer the cases of the two soldiers to the ICC, in line with Belgium’s international obligations and its efforts to ensure that justice is properly served.

The Hind Rajab Foundation announced in a statement published on July 21 that Belgian police had arrested the two Israeli soldiers and opened an investigation into them, based on allegations of war crimes committed in Gaza.
