SANAA, July 26 (YPA) – At least 125 members of the British Parliament have signed a cross-party letter calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to join the French president’s announcement to recognize the State of Palestine, Sky News reported on Saturday.
The MPs wrote: “British recognition of Palestine would be profoundly impactful, given Britain’s role as the maker of the Balfour Declaration and the mandatory power that ruled Palestine. Since 1980, Britain has supported a two-state solution. Formal recognition would strengthen this position and represent historic justice for the people living under this mandate.”
The move, led by Sarah Champion, a member of the British Labour Party, follows a letter sent earlier this month by some 60 members of the party to Foreign Secretary David Lammy demanding immediate recognition of the Palestinian state.
