Saudi Arabia suffocates Mahra people by sudden cut in fuel supplies

MAHRA, July 25 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed forces-held city of Al Ghaydah and other districts in Mahra province, eastern Yemen, are suffering a severe crisis due to a complete lack of fuel for the second straight day.

A local source in the city reported that fuel stations in Al-Ghaydah suddenly were closed their doors to citizens’ cars last Wednesday, amid accusations that pro-Saudi parties were fomenting the crisis to strengthen their influence in the province’s districts.

The source explained that the fuel crisis would exacerbate citizens’ living conditions, especially with almost 17 hour-lasted power outages a day amid soaring summer temperatures.

It pointed to the coalition-affiliated Aden government’s failure to find economic solutions and to mitigate the ongoing collapse of the local currency, which has lost its purchasing power in the local market.

This has forced merchants across the region to resort to using the Saudi riyal amid skyrocketing prices of basic commodities, which exhaust citizens, given the government’s inability to pay employees’ salaries.

The source stressed that the local authorities loyal to the coalition were unable to provide any emergency solutions, whether by providing fuel for power plants or exploiting revenues from land ports and fisheries resources to achieve sustainable development.
