Civil disobedience organized in Aden over deteriorating services

ADEN, Aug. 08 (YPA) – A peaceful civil disobedience campaign called by labor unions and federations in Aden city, south of Yemen, was held on Saturday to protest deteriorating public services, rising prices and worsening living conditions.

The campaign covered all eight districts of Aden, with shops and commercial centers closing between 7 and 10 a.m., while traffic declined noticeably on several streets.

According to a local source, the action reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the situation and demands for improved basic services, an end to currency depreciation and rising prices, and the payment of delayed salaries.

The demands also included the provision of electricity, water and gas, as well as measures to address worsening economic and living conditions.

Politically, the UAE-aligned Southern Transitional Council said the action also carried a message against policies of tutelage and interference in southern affairs, accusing Saudi Arabia of exercising control over decision-making.
