New Jersey declares state of emergency due to flooding

SANAA, July 15 (YPA) – The US state of New Jersey declared a state of emergency, on Tuesday, due to flash floods caused by heavy rains.

State Governor, Phil Murphy, stated that authorities declared a state of emergency due to the heavy rains, according to NBC News.

Murphy stated that two people lost their lives when their cars were swept away by floodwaters in the Flannfield area of the state.

The state governor called on citizens to be careful, stay home, and avoid unnecessary travel.

In a related context, the New York City Emergency Agency posted a warning on the X platform to citizens living in basements for fear of flash floods, urging them to carry their phones, flashlights, and an emergency bag and be prepared to move to higher ground.

According to the FlightAware website, 159 flights were canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey due to heavy rains.
