Yemeni military says air defenses thwarted Israeli attacks on multiple provinces

SANAA, July 07 (YPA) – A military source in the Ministry of Defense in the Sanaa-based government has revealed details of a confrontation between Yemeni air defense forces and Israeli aircraft during attacks on Hodeida and other provinces on Sunday evening.

Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Sharif, an advisor to the Minister of Defense in Sanaa, told the Yemeni Press Agency (YPA) that Yemeni air defenses successfully repelled Israeli airstrikes targeting Hodeida province.

Al-Sharif stated that Israeli warplanes also attempted to penetrate Yemeni airspace en route to other provinces but were met with strong defensive responses, thwarting the attacks.

“The Israeli pilots were surprised by the effectiveness of our advanced air defenses, which forced them to retreat from Hodeida’s airspace,” he said.

He described the systems used in the confrontation as “qualitative and advanced,” noting they were locally manufactured surface-to-air missiles. “The Israeli enemy did not expect Yemen to possess such advanced defensive capabilities,” Al-Sharif added.

He emphasized that this military success demonstrates Yemen’s ongoing development of its defense sector. “Our armed forces have once again proven they possess advanced air defense systems that confused the Zionist enemy and prevented it from achieving its objectives.”

According to Al-Sharif, the Sanaa leadership continues to prioritize military production and self-reliance. “This achievement is only one of the surprises Yemen is preparing for the Zionist entity and its supporters ,” he said.

He concluded: “Yemen’s possession of these systems will enhance the effectiveness of operations against the Israeli occupation and increase their pace. From this moment on, the Israeli entity will no longer be safe and will be targeted wherever it exists in the occupied territories—until its end.”
