Al-Barkani receives strong blow in Maashiq Palace

ADEN, July 04 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) dealt a powerful blow to General People’s Congress leader Sultan al-Barkani, who has been holed up in Maashiq Palace in Aden since last June.

In a statement, the STC’s branches in Dhalea, Socotra, Mahrh, and Hadramout affirmed on Thursday their refusal to receive the so-called “parliamentary committee” appointed by Al-Barkani to monitor the performance of local authorities.

The statement described the measures taken by Al-Barkani as provocative and completely unacceptable, considering them a blatant violation of the current political reality.

It pointed out that what Al-Barkani’s attempt to restore the tools of guardianship over the southern provinces had failed, explaining that the so-called Al-Barkani Council lacked any elements of popular acceptance and respect.

Al-Barkani’s meetings at Maashiq Palace and the formation of parliamentary field committees provoked the STC’s leadership and supporters across the various provinces.

Last week, the Workers’ Union and several unions affiliated with the STC declared an angry protest in front of Maashiq Palace, denouncing the deteriorating living conditions and services in Aden and the other provinces.
