Power outages double suffering of citizens in Aden

ADEN, June 22 (YPA) – Most power plants in the southern Yemeni city of Aden, under the Saudi-led coalition’s control, went out of service early Sunday morning.

Local sources in the city reported that the stations shut down suddenly and without prior warning, causing power outages in various areas of Aden.

The sources explained that the reason was the announcement by the S2 Al-Uqlah Block’s workers’ committee that it would halt the transfer of raw fuel to the PetroMasila station in Aden, effective today.

So far, the Electricity Corporation in Aden has not issued any clarification regarding this outage at a time when residents are suffering from a complex crisis due to high temperatures and power outages. They are demanding what they describe as “urgent solutions” from the pro-coalition government.

The coalition-backed government is facing difficulties in securing fuel shipments for its diesel-powered power plants, a situation that has been recurring since the middle of last year.

As the crisis escalates annually in Aden and the southern regions, citizens are suffering from difficult conditions exacerbated by ongoing economic crises and the deterioration of basic services. The severe economic crisis has been reflected in the decline in the value of the local currency against foreign currencies, worsening living conditions, and placing a heavy burden on the population.
