Aden responds strongly to new Mocha shipping route

ADEN, June 18 (YPA) – Authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden announced new reductions in transport fees for goods heading from the port to areas under control of Sanaa government.

The Land Transport Authority in Aden, affiliated with the UAE-backed  Southern Transitional Council (STC), issued a directive on Tuesday cutting freight charges by 20% for goods transported from Aden Port to Sanaa.

This comes after the pro-Tariq Saleh Chamber of Commerce in Taiz revealed plans to shift shipping operations from Aden to Mocha via a new route from India and the Horn of Africa.

The authority also announced a 50% reduction in the time limit for the return of shipping containers, aiming to facilitate faster logistics turnaround.

These developments follow a call by the Taiz Chamber of Commerce inviting importers to attend a consultative meeting scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the new maritime trade route.

The move reflects a potential shift toward a deliberate sidelining of Aden Port in favor of alternative regional shipping hubs.
