TRIPOLI, May 13 (YPA) – Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, head of Libya’s Stability Support Apparatus (SSA), has been killed during armed clashes that broke out in the southern part of the capital, Tripoli.
According to the sources, Al-Kikli headed to the headquarters of the 444th Combat Brigade to hold talks aimed at containing the escalating security tensions in the city. However, a dispute erupted between the two parties that quickly escalated into an armed clash, resulting in his death and injuries to a number of individuals.
Since the incident erupted, violent clashes have been ongoing in Abu Salim Municipality, which hosts the official headquarters of the Stability Support Apparatus, amid widespread panic among civilians.
For its part, the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity urged citizens to remain indoors and avoid movement for their safety, while the United Nations Mission in Libya expressed grave concern, warning of a serious deterioration in the capital’s security situation.
