WORLD, May 13 (YPA)- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided the United States with precise coordinates for 12 military targets in Yemen, as part of a coordinated effort to weaken the capabilities of Ansarullah (also known as the Houthis), The New York Times reported, citing US officials.
This move is part of broader US-Saudi security and military coordination aimed at countering Yemeni forces.
According to the officials, the previous U.S. administration under President Donald Trump had set a 30-day deadline for the military operation to yield tangible results. However, field developments presented unforeseen challenges. During that period, the Houthis managed to shoot down seven U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones and two F/A-18 fighter jets were lost in operational incidents over the Red Sea.
The newspaper noted that the Yemeni forces came close to striking several advanced US aircraft, including F-16 and F-35 fighter jets, underscoring the growing risks of escalation and the potential for U.S. casualties.
The report also revealed a critical gap in intelligence assessments, as it became apparent that the defensive and military capabilities of Sana’a-based forces had been underestimated.
On the other hand, analyses indicated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia heavily relied on U.S. intelligence and logistical support throughout its decade-long aerial campaign in Yemen. However, field challenges and the advanced combat capabilities of Sana’a-based forces hindered the achievement of strategic objectives within the designated timeframe.
