LONDON, May 12 (YPA) – The Palestinian human rights organization “Al-Haq” is leading the legal effort against the British government, accusing it of violating its obligations under international law, including its duty to prevent genocide, according to a report published by the Financial Times.
Last September, the British government announced the suspension of certain arms export licenses to the Israeli occupation due to concerns that these weapons would be used to violate international humanitarian law during military operations in Gaza. However, spare parts for F-35 fighter jets, which are supplied to the occupation via the United States, were exempted from this decision.
The activists asserted in the lawsuit documents that these exemptions contradict Britain’s international responsibilities and contribute to the widespread destruction caused by the F-35 fighter jets in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, more than 230 civil society organizations, including the Campaign Against Arms Trade, sent an urgent call to countries participating in the manufacture of F-35 fighters, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the United States, and the United Kingdom, demanding that they stop all arms shipments to the occupation immediately.
