SANAA, May 09 (YPA) – United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Julien Harneis, paid a visit on Thursday to inspect the damage caused by the Israeli aggression on the Sanaa international airport.
During the visit, Harneis, accompanied with deputy of the ministry of foreign affairs, Ismail Al-Mutawakel, heard from the airport administration an explanation of the destruction caused by the Israeli aggression, including the disruption of civilian and humanitarian flights and the transfer of patients for treatment abroad.
Al-Mutawakel called on the United Nations and the international community to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and take urgent steps to halt these violations and ensure the protection of civilian facilities.
He explained that targeting Sanaa airport is a crime against humanity and a war crime by all standards, saying, “targeting the airport is targeting the Yemeni people and the humanitarian aspect, adding the aggression revealed the extent of the ugliness and hatred of the Israeli enemy.
For his part, Harneis expressed his deep concern over the damage to the airport, stating that the Airport is a vital facility upon which tens of thousands of Yemenis rely to receive medical treatment abroad, in addition to being a major entry and exit point for humanitarian workers.
