Targeting Sanaa cemeteries sparks global ridicule: Has America’s confusion reached its peak?
SANAA, April 20 (YPA) – In an unprecedented scene blending military absurdity with political satire, US aircraft launched airstrikes on Saturday evening targeting two cemeteries in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
This move was described as the “most chaotic” since the beginning of the US escalation in Yemen.
The new American escalation was described by politicians and activists as “the most absurd,” which sparked a widespread wave of ridicule on social media amid questions about the feasibility of the American military escalation in Yemen.
The US raids targeted the Majel al-Dammah cemetery in the al-Safiyah district and the al-Nujaimat cemetery in the al-Sab’een district in the center of the capital, without causing any casualties among the living.
Meanwhile, Yemeni websites circulated “sarcastic” reports of three dead people sustaining varying degrees of injuries, amid residents’ astonishment at the transformation of cemeteries into military targets.
The incident quickly became a topic of ridicule on social media. Dr. Sharif Miyastineh, editor-in-chief of the Afghan newspaper Heywad, mocked the incident in a post on the X platform, saying, “The ‘terrifying’ American B-2 aircraft bombed two cemeteries in the capital, Sanaa, tonight. Does this indicate that Trump has made America great again, or has he turned it into a joke?”
In the context of sarcasm, activists shared a sarcastic comment attributed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which said, He expresses his concern about the targeting of cemeteries and calls on all the dead in the Sanaa cemeteries to exercise restraint and avoid escalation.”
In a remarkable development, local and international media attributed to the Central US military command an urgent statement: “We bombed the graves in Sanaa with the aim of eliminating the Houthis from their roots.”
The phrase sparked a storm of sarcasm, and one activist wrote, “This is what uprooting looks like in the American way, starting from cemeteries and ending with comedy!”
Media outlets preceded it with another equally sarcastic Pentagon report, which stated, “We carried out a precision strike on a secret meeting of the dead in a Sanaa cemetery. They were planning attacks against the interests of the people of hell.”
For their part, Yemeni activists expressed their astonishment that the cemeteries had become military targets, wondering, “Has the impotence of the United States reached such a degree that it finds only the dead as a target for its strikes?!”
While the United States continues its attacks under the pretext of “protecting international navigation,” observers believe that such indiscriminate strikes—which have even targeted deaths—reveal the extent of the US strategy’s confusion and raise legitimate questions about the objectives of this escalation and its political and military feasibility.
Others believe that such strikes reflect Washington’s operational and political failure in managing the military escalation in Yemen, especially after its failure to halt operations targeting Israeli navigation and those related to it in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Amid the ongoing senseless strikes, Sanaa affirms that its response will not cease, and that the enemy’s attacks—whatever their targets—will not deter the Yemeni people from their position in supporting Palestine and confronting American-Zionist hegemony in the region.
