HADRAMOUT, March 05 (YPA) – A massive demonstration was organized on Wednesday in the city of Mukalla, the provincial capital of Hadramout, in protest against the state of economic collapse, the deterioration of the local currency, the increasing severity of poverty and the absence of services.
Local sources in the city said that the demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the departure of the coalition countries from Yemen, in addition to demanding that the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council, headed by Rashad al-Alimi, and the coalition-funded Aden government be referred to the judiciary on charges of corruption and abandoning their responsibility towards the people.
The sources said that the protesters burned damaged tires and blocked streets in the city’s Quarters, in an attempt to pressure the government to respond to the demands of the citizens.
The demonstrations, which continue for the fifth consecutive day in the city of Mukalla, come within the framework of a wave of escalating protests in the coalition-held various areas of Yemen, in protest against the worsening economic crisis and the collapse of the local currency, without the de facto authorities affiliated with the coalition taking any significant steps to limit the catastrophe.
