Pro-coalition government imposes new fuel price hike in Aden amid economic collapse

ADEN, March 06 (YPA) -The government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition has imposed a new fuel price hike in Aden, with an increase of 2,000 Yemeni riyals on the price of a 20-liter canister of gasoline, bringing the total price to 34,000 riyals.

This decision was made following directives issued by the leadership of the oil company in Aden.

The new price hike comes amid the continued collapse of the local currency, with the exchange rate of the US dollar reaching approximately 2,349 riyals, while the Saudi riyal exceeded 700 Yemeni riyals.

This is occurring as the pro- coalition government remain powerless to take any steps to s to stop the ongoing economic decline.

Aden Oil Company justified  these increases as necessary to align prices with the global market. However, citizens and economic experts accuse pro-coalition government of corruption and mismanagement, asserting that these justifications are merely a cover for continued systematic looting.

The price hike has been coincided with scattered protests in several neighborhoods of Aden, where citizens have demanded an end to these burdensome measures that exacerbate their sufferings amid unpaid salaries and deteriorating basic services.

The imposition of consecutive price hike revealed the pro-coalition government’s insistence on burdening citizens with the consequences of its corruption and failure to save the national currency.

At the same time, there is a complete absence of oversight or genuine economic plans to stop the accelerating collapse.
