’ RAIYAH, March 03 (YPA) – The Saudi authorities have issued new directives banning the use of cameras in mosques to film the imam and worshippers during prayers, including Taraweeh prayers, as well as prohibiting the broadcasting or live streaming of prayers on any media platform.
This marks the first time such a measure has been implemented in the kingdom’s history
Spokesman for Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Abdullah Al-Anzi, stated that “this decision comes as part of the kingdom’s efforts to protect people’s beliefs and religious platforms from any mistakes or violations that may occur during filming or live broadcasting, whether these errors are due to ignorance or unintentional mistakes.”
Al-Anzi pointed out that “the ban includes filming or live broadcasting using mobile phones for Taraweeh prayers and religious lectures, emphasizing that specialized committees will monitor mosques to ensure the implementation of this decision.”
This decision, which has provoked a strong reaction from many citizens, is part of broader changes being adopted by the Saudi regime aimed at promoting entertainment events and dancing at the expense of religious rituals and practices.
