ICC prosecutor rejects Israeli objections to Gaza war investigation

THE HAGUE, Jan. 14 (YPA) – The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, assured on Monday the judges that Israeli occupation’s objections to the investigation into the Israeli genocidal war against the Gaza Strip must be rejected.

This came during his official response to the Israeli occupation’s appeal regarding the court’s jurisdiction, after judges issued arrest warrants last year against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

In his 55-page response, he noted that the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, allows it to prosecute crimes committed on the territory of member states, including occupied Palestine, regardless of where the perpetrators come from.

“Individuals may not directly object to an arrest warrant, but “Israel” can object to the entire investigation,” Khan added.

In a file submitted by the Israeli occupation last December, it claimed that it could look into the accusations directed at its officials itself, and that continuing the investigation would constitute a violation of it.
