Calls launched in South Africa to stop coal exports to Israeli occupation

SANAA, Dec. 23 (YPA) – Roshan Dadoo, coordinator of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) South Africa coalition, called for urgent measures to stop coal exports from South Africa to the Israeli occupation, stressing that these exports contribute to fueling the occupation and the apartheid system.

She pointed out that these exports represent about 15% of Israel’s coal imports, and are necessary to meet its energy needs.

She stressed that stopping these exports is consistent with South Africa’s historical position against apartheid and its obligations under the Genocide Convention.

Dado confirmed that this step will not negatively affect the country’s economy, but will harm the energy sector in “Israel.”
