LAHJ, ABYAN, Dec. 13 (YPA) – The governorates of Lahj and Abyan witnessed mass protests on Thursday, organized by the “Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement.”
The demonstrations called for the release of the council’s political office head, Abdulwali Al-Sabihi, and his fellow detainees held in prisons run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.
The demonstrations condemned the ongoing violations by the STC in several southern governorates, while expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people in their ongoing struggle against Israeli crimes that have lasted for over a year.
In Lahj, a massive demonstration took place in the city of Al-Houta, with a mass popular participation. They raised the Palestinian flags and pictures of those forcibly detained in the STC’s prisons.
The protesters chanted slogans calling for the release of Al-Subaihi and the Southern Movement leaders held in the STC’s secret prisons, stressing to put an end to the ongoing crackdown and arrests targeting the movement’s leaders.
In Abyan, people took to the streets in the city of Zinjibar, expressing their rejection of the violations targeting the leaders of the Southern Revolutionary Movement.
During his speech at the demonstration, the president of the council in Abyan, Mohammed Awad Al-Sulaimani, denounced the unjust arrests and enforced disappearances.
He demanded the immediate release of all detainees and held the STC responsible for their lives and safety.
The protesters expressed full solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning the crimes committed in Gaza by Israeli occupation forces.
They also denounced the Arab and international silence regarding these violations, reaffirming their support for the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It is worth noting that these protests come amid the deterioration of security and economic collapse, as well as growing public anger over the ongoing campaigns of repression and arrests targeting the leaders of the Revolutionary Movement and popular activists.
