The statement said that the leadership and control of the Civil Defense Department received at 3:05 PM a report of a fire that broke out at “Hyper Shomlan” on 30th Street, Moeen District, in the capital, Sanaa.
“Immediately after receiving the report, Civil Defense teams rushed to the scene and quickly worked to put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring shops and homes,” the statement read.
The statement clarified that the commercial center has two floors: the first floor is for food items, and the second for clothing. The fire started on the second floor.
The workers stated that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, and the incident is currently under investigation by the criminal evidence department.
According to the Civil Defense, the center is lacking a comprehensive safety and security system, and there are no trained teams to deal with and put out fires.
In this regard, the Civil Defense Authority urges all commercial centers and malls to take immediate precautions by providing public safety systems, protecting lives and property, and training all workers on public safety procedures.
