Arab, foreign countries condemn catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza

WORLD, Oct. 17 (YPA) – Several Arab and foreign countries have condemned the catastrophic situation caused by “Israel” in Gaza, particularly its prevention of humanitarian and relief aid provided by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the region.

During an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on “the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestine issue,” called by Algeria, Algeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, confirmed that the humanitarian crisis in the northern part of the Gaza Strip has reached catastrophic levels.

Bendjama said that the entity’s authorities not only ignore international law, but have also been violating the basics of human sense for more than a year.

The Algerian representative pointed out that starving civilians and depriving them of basic survival materials as a tool of war is totally prohibited under international law.

For his part, the permanent representative of France to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière, condemned the Israeli airstrikes on civilian infrastructure in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the US representative, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, expressed deep concern over the devastating scenes of civilian casualties following the Israeli airstrikes in central Gaza.

Joyce Msuya, the acting Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, presented a report on the dire conditions in Gaza and the situation in the Middle East.

She indicated during the Security Council session that Israeli occupation operations in northern Gaza have displaced over 55,000 people, leaving others trapped in their homes without water or food.
