50 passengers survived massive fire in Abyan

ABYAN, Oct. 07 (YPA) – About 50 passengers coming from Saudi Arabia survived a massive fire that broke out on a public transport bus in Abyan province, southern Yemen, on Monday.

The fire broke out suddenly in the engine of the transport bus that carrying 50 passengers coming from Saudi Arabia in the Hassan area east of the city of Zunjbar, on their way to Aden.

The fire engulfed the bus of “Al-Afdal” Transport Company without the presence of the simplest means of security and safety to extinguish the fire, while the passengers rushed to leave the bus immediately after the engine caught fire, without the Saudi company committing to implementing safety standards.

The competent authorities in Yemen must intervene urgently to impose more control over transportation companies to implement security and safety measures and the presence of fire extinguishers on buses to ensure the safety of passengers.
