STC asks for deadline extension to reveal fate of Laqmoush tribe members

SHABWA, Aug. 29 (YPA) – Tribes of Shabwa held a large meeting in the Habban district to discuss escalatory  options in solidarity with the kidnapped members of the Laqmoush tribe who have been detained in prisons run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) prisons in Aden since 2016.

The meeting, called by the Laqmoush tribe, addressed the escalatory steps after the deadline given to the STC leaders to reveal the fate of “Saleh and Mohammed,” sons of Sheikh Saeed Omar Maqdah Laqmoushi, who have been forcibly disappeared for nine years.

In the meeting, the tribal sheikhs from Shabwa announced their support for the Laqmoush financial and military aid to meet their legitimate demands for the release of their kidnapped members from the Aden prisons.

Local sources reported that the head of the STC branch in Shabwa, Sheikh Lahmar Ali Al-Soud, requested that the sheikhs of Laqmoush and Shabwa halt their escalation efforts, asking for an additional 14 days to allow him and the local authorities in the governorate to negotiate with the STC leadership in Aden to find a solution that ensures the release of the Laqmoush tribe members.

The sheikhs of Laqmoush and Shabwa agreed to temporarily halt the escalation in response to the STC Shabwa head’s request, while warning against delay and procrastination regarding the kidnapped individuals’ situation, according to the meeting’s statement.

the tribal sheikhs assured the STC that they would retain the option of taking all escalation measures if the mediation committee did not achieve results that meet the legitimate demands of the Laqmoush tribe members.
