UN: 30,000 Palestinians live in one square kilometer in Al-Mawasi area in Gaza

GAZA, Aug. 22 (YPA) – The United Nations said on Wednesday that the number of people per square kilometer in Al-Mawasi area in the Gaza Strip reached 30,000 people, due to the influx of displaced people.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said, “Many Palestinians are taking refuge in parts of Al-Mawasi in the central Gaza Strip, and the ongoing military operations and repeated evacuation orders have forced families in Gaza to be displaced repeatedly.”

“Every 30,000 people live in one square kilometer in Al-Mawasi area currently, compared to 1,200 people per square kilometer before the war of extermination launched by Israeli occupation forces, UNRWA added.”

United Nations data shows that 9 out of 10 people in Gaza have been displaced, and that most Palestinians in Gaza are forced to move at least once a month.

Al-Mawasi area is located along the coast of the cities of Deir Al-Balah, Khan Yunis, and Rafah, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in the southern Gaza Strip.
