Sanaa imposes new rules to activate international organizations’ operating in Yemen

SANAA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Sanaa on Tuesday revealed a new agreement with the United Nations concerning the operational rules for organizations in alignment with new objectives of “Change and Construction” government, the constitution of the Republic of Yemen, and international charters and treaties.

The Foreign Minister  Jamal Amer, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that a committee from the ministry handed over the building of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sanaa to the UN Resident Coordinator, Julien Harneis, and the local representative of the Office of the High Commissioner.

He announced that “the handover followed discussions with Julien on the operational rules for organizations and enhancing cooperation with the UN and its affiliated and international organizations.”

Earlier, Minister Amer had met with UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Julien Harneis.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations involved in humanitarian and development assistance for people in need and those affected by the economic blockade imposed on Yemen.

The Foreign Minister affirmed the Government of Change and Construction’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the United Nations and related organizations, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Yemen and international charters and treaties.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that United Nations and humanitarian aid are not used as instruments of political pressure by colonial powers.
