WORLD, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed on Sunday that the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, in Iran had disrupted efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement between the movement and the Israeli entity.
In a phone call with Iran’s acting foreign minister, Wang repeated Beijing’s denunciation of the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, saying the strike had violated Iran’s sovereignty and threatened regional stability, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Wang strongly condemned the assassination, indicating that Beijing views these actions as a serious violation of the fundamental principles of international relations.
“China supports Iran in defending its “sovereignty, security and national dignity,” Wang Yi told the Iranian official during the phone call.
These remarks come at a time when the Israeli entity is anticipating possible reactions from Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas in response to the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, as well as the prominent Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut the day before.
