BAYDA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – At least three security personnel were killed and another one was injured in an attack launched by armed elements belonging to Al-Qaeda in the Wald Rabi’ district of Al-Bayda Governorate, security Media affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in Sanaa reported.
Security Media quoted the police in Al-Bayda Governorate stating that the security checkpoint in the Hama Sarrar area in the district of Wald Rabi’ was attacked by two individuals affiliated with extremist groups. This prompted a security officer to open fire, killing one of them.
“Following the incident, remaining members of the extremist groups, which had been expelled from the area years ago, attacked the security personnel at the checkpoint. This resulted in the martyrdom of fighters Akram Mohamed Al-Jawfi, Omar Abdul Wahab Al-Tayyare, and Ahmed Ali Abdullah Ayed Ahmed, and the injury of fighter Hazzan Saleh Ahmed Wasil, the police said.
The extremists also burned the bodies of the martyrs and desecrated them inside a neighboring Mosque’s Minatare, an act contrary to religious values and tribal customs.
The police have taken necessary measures, deploying a security campaign to apprehend the suspects. The campaign came under fire from the criminal elements, resulting in the injury of Major Ahmed Nasser Al-Bakri, the Central Security Forces’ operations chief in the governorate, according to the police.
Security forces responded, retrieving the martyrs’ bodies, surrounding the criminal elements, and arresting some participants in the attack. Names of the remaining perpetrators have been circulated.
The police confirmed their commitment to maintaining security and public safety, and expressed appreciation for tribal mediation efforts, as well as gratitude to local leaders and residents for their cooperation in restoring security and justice in the area.
