WORLD, April 28 (YPA) – Five people have died and 33 have been injured in a tornado that struck Guangzhou, in southern China, on Saturday afternoon, according to local authorities.
The initial investigation conducted by the provincial meteorological bureau found that the tornado had a level-three intensity– two levels down from the highest intensity level of five — and that it moved an approximate distance of one kilometer.
Meanwhile, China’s state news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday that hailstones with a size over 5 centimeters fell in the Guangzhou area.
The agency stated in a statement: “Under the influence of cumulonimbus clouds, a strong tornado occurred in the Guangzhou area and large hailstones with a diameter of more than 5 centimeters fell.”
Videos shared on social media showing hailstones and heavy rain falling, as well as terrifying scenes of the tornado sweeping through the area.
