FM affirms Yemen’s position on ensuring security of sea navigation

SANAA, Jan. 30 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, affirmed on Tuesday Yemen’s position and its armed forces related to ensuring the security of freedom of navigation in the Red and Arabian Seas.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Rebeca Grynspan, the minister stressed on the importance of protecting the safe passage of global trade because of its effective impact on Levels of economic growth for developing and least developed countries.

The letter indicated Yemen’s steadfast position that rejects the war crimes and genocide of civilians taking place in the Gaza Strip, in light of the blatant failure on the part of the international community and its institutions, especially the Security Council, which does not intervene to stop the crimes committed by the Zionist entity.

It reiterated the government of Yemen’s affirmation that all ships have the freedom to move to and from the Red and Arab Seas without any restrictions, except for the Zionist enemy’s ships or those bound to the occupied Palestinian ports, until the aggression is stopped and the enter humanitarian, food and fuel aid are entered into Gaza Strip.

The minister’s letter touched on the statements of an official at the UNCTAD on January 25, 2024, which were characterized by exaggeration and painted a bleak picture of the current situation in the Red Sea and its impact on the costs of global trade.

“The freedom of navigation in the Red and Arab Seas is guaranteed and is proceeding normally with the exception of Israeli ships or those heading to it,” Sharafstated. This measure will stop as soon as the aggression is ended on the Gaza Strip.”
