HADRAMOUT, Jan. 25 (YPA) – An activist and media figure in the city of Al-Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province in eastern Yemen, has been abducted following a raid into his home by an armed force affiliated with Saudi-led coalition.
Human rights sources in Hadramout confirmed that the armed individuals, arriving on a military vehicle, forcibly entered the home of activist Omar Karaman on Tuesday, abducting him at gunpoint.
The raid caused panic and terror for his wife, who gave birth approximately a month ago.
Sources attribute Karaman’s abduction to his posts on social media, in which he exposed Governor Mubarak bin Madi’s documentation of lands recently purchased at exorbitant amounts in the circular road and Khour Al-Mukalla.
In his Facebook posts, Karaman mentioned that bin Madi brought the head of the land department to inspect and document his lands, leading to Karaman being thrown into one of the prisons in Al-Mukalla.
The abduction of Karaman has sparked widespread anger among the people of Hadramout. They considered it a dangerous precedent for suppressing freedom of expression.
They demand the immediate release of Karaman and an apology to him and his terrified wife, emphasizing that his hands did not reach public funds.
